A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Village Of Almena in Wisconsin on November 7, 2024. The request, filed by us at Northwoods Reporter, seeks to obtain a list of new voters who registered on Election Day, November 5, 2024.
As a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we believe access to such public records is essential for fulfilling our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.
The request was made under the Wisconsin Open Records Law, §19.31 et seq., and we have asked for the information preferably in an electronic format. We have also requested a fee waiver as a media professional given our role in disseminating information to the public.
