FOIA Request Sent to Village of Webster Regarding New Voter Registrations on November 7, 2024

A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Village of Webster in Wisconsin on November 7, 2024. The request was made by Northwoods Reporter, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.

The FOIA request specifically sought information about new voter registrations that occurred on November 5, 2024. As journalists at Northwoods Reporter, we believe access to such public records is essential for fulfilling our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.

Given our role in disseminating information to the public, we have requested a fee waiver as media professionals under the Wisconsin Open Records Law, §19.31 et seq. This law allows for certain fees associated with accessing public records to be waived for members of the media who are involved in gathering and reporting news.

As part of our ongoing commitment to transparency and accountability in local government, we will continue to seek out and report on important public records like these. We believe that an informed public is an empowered one, and we are dedicated to ensuring that our readers have access to the most accurate and up-to-date information possible.

We await a response from the Village of Webster regarding this request and will update our readers as soon as more information becomes available.
