A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the City of Ashland, Wisconsin on November 7, 2024. The request was made by Northwoods Reporter, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.
In our pursuit of transparency and accountability in public institutions, we requested records under the Wisconsin Open Records Law, §19.31 et seq., specifically seeking a list of new voters who registered to vote on November 5, 2024.
As a media organization involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, access to such public records is crucial for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. We believe that this information will provide valuable insight into the civic participation levels in the recent elections and help us better understand voter engagement in the community.
We have also requested a fee waiver as a media professional due to our role in disseminating information to the public. This waiver would facilitate our efforts in providing comprehensive coverage on this matter.
The City of Ashland has yet to respond to our request. We remain committed to bringing transparency and accountability through our reporting, and we look forward to sharing these findings with our readers once they become available.
