Amery City - WI issued the following announcement on Nov. 1
Please only flush toilet paper down the toilet. The use of flushable wipes and sanitizing wipes has become very popular in recent years. The uptick in use has resulted in more of these products being flushed to Amery's waste treatment plant. The wipes cause clogs and damage in pipes and waste treatment plant equipment, and they can actually result in sewer backups into homes which the homeowner is then responsible for. Attached is an image that shows the buildup of wipes at the Amery waste treatment plant in a matter of 4 hours. Please also watch the attached news story that explains the risks associated with flushing products other than toilet paper down the toilet.
