A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Town of Dewey, Wisconsin, regarding new voter registrations on November 7, 2024.
As part of our ongoing commitment to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at Northwoods Reporter have formally requested a list of voters who registered on Election Day, November 5, 2024. This request was made under the Wisconsin Open Records Law, §19.31 et seq., and we have expressed a preference for receiving the records in an electronic format.
We believe that access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities as journalists. These responsibilities include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we consider ourselves eligible for a fee waiver as media professionals.
We are currently awaiting a response from the Town of Dewey's clerk office and will continue to update our readers as more information becomes available.
