A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Town of Barksdale regarding new voter registrations on November 7, 2024. The request was made by us at Northwoods Reporter, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.
The specific records requested under the Wisconsin Open Records Law, §19.31 et seq., are for a list of voters who registered to vote on November 5, 2024. As part of our commitment to transparency and public accountability, we believe access to these public records is essential in fulfilling our professional responsibilities.
As a media organization involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, we also expressed our belief that we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional.
