A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Town Of Grand View in Wisconsin on November 7, 2024. The request was made by Northwoods Reporter, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.
The FOIA request specifically asked for a list of new voters who registered to vote on November 5, 2024. As part of our commitment to transparency and public accountability, we at Northwoods Reporter believe that access to such records is essential in fulfilling our professional responsibilities.
We explained in our request that as members of the media involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, access to public records is crucial for us. This information allows us to hold public institutions accountable and provide transparency to the public.
Given our role in disseminating information, we also requested a fee waiver as a media professional under the Wisconsin Open Records Law, §19.31 et seq., with preference for the requested records in electronic format.
We await a response from the Town Of Grand View and will continue working diligently towards maintaining transparency and accountability within our local government institutions.
