A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Town of Beaver in Wisconsin on November 7, 2024. The request, filed by Northwoods Reporter, sought detailed information about new voter registrations that occurred on November 5, 2024.
As a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at Northwoods Reporter are seeking access to these public records under the Wisconsin Open Records Law, §19.31 et seq. We requested this data preferably in electronic format for ease of analysis and reporting.
The purpose of our request is to gather and report news to the public regarding local elections and voting trends. Access to such public records is essential for us at Northwoods Reporter to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These responsibilities include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.
Given our role in disseminating information as a media organization, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional. This would enable us to continue providing valuable insights into local government affairs without undue financial burden.
We look forward to the Town of Beaver's response and cooperation in providing these records as we continue our work in promoting transparency and accountability within local government.
