Spooner Area School District had the highest enrollment among Washburn County districts, welcoming 998 students during the 2023-24 academic year, according to the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction.

Of all the students welcomed in the 2023-24 school year, 51.6% of them were boys, and 48.4% were girls.

Data also showed that most of the students were white, representing 92% of the Spooner Area School District's total enrollment.

Among the four districts in Washburn County, Shell Lake School District ranked second in enrollment numbers with 618 students, while Northwood School District welcomed 328 students and ranked third in the 2023-24 school year.

Spooner Area School District roughly covers schools within Washburn County, with its main office in Spooner.

In the previous school year, Spooner Area School District also had the highest number of students among Washburn County districts.

Nearly 830,000 students were enrolled in Wisconsin schools in the 2021-22 school year. This is a 0.85% decrease from the year before. In sharp contrast to declining public school figures, enrollment in charter schools rose 4.5% to more than 52,000.

In 2022, there was roughly one teacher for every 14 students in a Wisconsin classroom, compared to the national average of 1:16. AAA State of Play considered Wisconsin to have the 14th best teacher to student ratio in the U.S.
