The University of Wisconsin-Superior Music Department will present Brett Jones, percussion, and Stas Venglevski, accordion, on Tuesday, February 7, at 7:30 p.m. in Webb Recital Hall as part of its Faculty Recital series.
“This duo recital will feature a variety of music – including several originals,” said Jones, Music Department chair and professor of percussion. “We will perform several duo work that Stas composed and we have adapted for accordion and marimba. We’ll also perform an original composition of mine adapted for accordion and vibraphone ‘Rondo for Louise,’ that was featured on my recent CD, ‘Star of the Sea.’”
Jones and Venglevski will also perform “Hale Bop Comet,” by Estonian composer, Urmas Sisask who recently composed a work for UW-Superior’s percussion ensemble and choir that was premiered last year. Sisask died December 17.
“We will also premiere two new works by UWS alumnus Ian Deterling,” said Jones. “Both commissioned by me, one is a duo for percussion and accordion entitled, ‘Earendel.’ The other is a three-movement marimba solo, which I have never performed all three movements, so this will be the premiere. This piece is entitled ‘Chuqi,’ and it is a based on scenes from a Chilean mining community.”
Tickets are $10. Webb Recital Hall is in Holden Fine and Applied Arts Center, 1805 Catlin Ave.
