Ashwabay Summit Nordic Ski Race

Date and Time:

February 4, 2023, 11:00pm – February 5, 2023, 4:00am

Location:

Mt. Ashwabay Ski and Recreation Area

We are proud to announce the 2023 Ashwabay Summit Nordic Race at Mt. Ashwabay in Bayfield, Wisconsin. Many traditions are intact, and we have some exciting new options this year. We will still run middle school, high school, and college races, all starting prior to the citizen division. And of course, we’ll still be handing out home baked pies to overall and age group winners. All citizen races include a climb to the summit, and a fantastic view across Lake Superior towards Madeline Island.

1. New this year: we’ve added a 30k skate race to the lineup. Citizen racers now have three options.

 ● 30k skate: The skate race consists of 2 laps, including two climbs to the summit up our Northern Lights trail! It will be a great, and affordable, option for those looking for a long training day to prepare for the Birkie.

 ● 10k classic: The classic course includes a climb up “Seagull Classic” a true hidden gem of the Ashwabay trail system.

● 25k skiathlon style pursuit: The pursuit course uses one lap on the classic course, and one lap on the skate course, with a stunning variety of terrain and scenery.

2. We are bringing back a free kids event, held at 12:30. There will be a 0.5k option for kids 1st grade and under, and a 1.5k option for 2nd-4th grade. (5th graders can enter the 3.5k race with a ski team or as an individual, or are welcome to participate in the free race).

Online Registration is open. Middle school, high school, and college racers should sign up with their team, unless they are skiing alone. In that case they can register online (or by mail).
