Madison, Wis. - The State Senate has passed a bill authored by Senator Romaine Robert Quinn (R-Cameron) to expand the child tax exemption for all families. The legislation, known as Senate Bill 344, increases the individual income tax exemption to $1,000 for each child and extends the definition of dependent to include children before birth.

"This proposal acknowledges the importance of all children and provides additional financial relief to parents," said Senator Quinn. "We know expenses for families expecting a baby begin long before birth. New parents will receive the benefit that much sooner, and all parents will receive a greater benefit to help with the rising costs of raising children."

The bill is part of a package of measures known as "Embrace Them Both," all authored by Senator Quinn, aimed at supporting parents and their children. Other measures in the package include funding for pregnancy resource centers, defraying adoption expenses, and clarifying Wisconsin law to ensure physicians can confidentially work to protect both the life of the mother and baby whenever possible.

"All of these supports will assist new families in providing what is needed for both mother and baby," Senator Quinn stated. "It is my hope that these reasonable measures, which embrace life at all stages, will receive bipartisan support and are signed into law by Governor Evers."
