This year, the Iron County GOP collaborated with local representatives to host a pre-legislation town hall. The event featured discussions from Senator Evan Vickers and Representative Albrecht, although Representative Shipp was unable to attend due to unexpected family commitments.
Senator Vickers highlighted priorities such as expanding energy options through new nuclear technology and emphasized the importance of water resources for Iron County. He also addressed issues like removing taxes on social security, budget concerns, and cybersecurity.
Representative Albrecht discussed modern nuclear power, noting that he is running “the first nuclear energy bill in the state of Utah.” This bill aims to establish an “energy board” responsible for overseeing locations and fuel sources. Albrecht anticipates that Utah could have a nuclear power plant within 10-15 years. He also touched on topics including the social security tax cut, voter security, immigration, and higher education's spending on courses that do not lead to practical skills. Additionally, he mentioned plans to protect communities from flooding caused by snowpack and monsoon rains.
During a Q&A session, attendees inquired about involvement in the legislative process. It was announced that weekly Zoom meetings would be held by the Iron County GOP on Saturdays for those interested.
The Iron County GOP expressed gratitude towards Governor Spencer Cox and Attorney General Sean Reyes for their efforts against federal overreach.
For those interested in volunteering with the Iron County Republican Party, there is an invitation to fill out a form provided at the event.
