University of Wisconsin-Superior issued the following announcement on June 10

UW-Superior has teamed up with Second Harvest Northern Lakes Food Bank to help with the region’s first Coronavirus Food Assistance Program distribution at Wessman Arena, 2701 Catlin Avenue, on Wednesday, June 10 from 10 am – 11 am.

Each household will receive 3-4 fresh boxes of food that may include a mix of dairy, produce, pre-cooked meat, and cheeses. There are no income eligibility restrictions, and no residency requirements to receive food. This is the first of several weekly distributions in the Northland.

The food distribution program is made possible by a government program's response to COVID-19. The $3 Billion Coronavirus Food Assistance Program was created to help support farmers, maintain food chain supply integrity, and feed Americans. Second Harvest is working with the USDA to deliver more fresh food to those in need in Northern Minnesota and Northwestern Wisconsin.

Shaye Morris, executive director of Second Harvest, said there has been a great need for their services and they have seen an increase in need over the last three months.

“We are pleased to provide the facility and volunteers for this food distribution to help our friends and neighbors in need,” said Jordan Milan, UW-Superior director of strategic communications and special assistant to the chancellor. We have been using the slogan, ‘We stand together,’ throughout the pandemic to represent our efforts to support our students and community. This is a great example of what it truly means to ‘stand together.’”
