U.S. News & World Report names UW-Superior among best colleges

University of Wisconsin-Superior issued the following announcement on Sept. 13

UW-Superior received high marks in rankings for Social Mobility and Top Public Schools

The University of Wisconsin-Superior has been named among the best colleges by U.S. News & World Report. UW-Superior received high marks in rankings for Social Mobility and Top Public Schools among national liberal arts colleges.

According to U.S. News, schools are ranked according to performance across a set of widely accepted indicators of excellence. Factors included outcomes, faculty resources, expert opinion, financial resources, student excellence and alumni giving.

The National Liberal Arts Colleges ranking emphasizes undergraduate education and award at least half of their degrees in the liberal arts fields of study.

In the Top Performers on Social Mobility category, U.S. News noted that economically disadvantaged students are less likely than others to finish college, even when controlling for other characteristics. UW-Superior’s ranking was among colleges U.S. News & World Report found are more successful than others at advancing social mobility by enrolling and graduating large proportions of disadvantaged students awarded with Pell Grants. Many of these federal grants are awarded to students whose adjusted gross family incomes are under $50,000.

UW-Superior scored well in faculty resources with a 14-to-1 student-teacher ratio and an average class size of 18.
