University of Wisconsin-Superior issued the following announcement on March 14.

The University of Wisconsin-Superior welcomed Tommy Thompson to campus on Friday, March 11, for his final visit as UW System president.

While in Superior, Thompson toured a new business one-stop site on Tower Ave. There he met with UW-Superior Chancellor Dr. Renee Wachter, senior strategic partnership officer Jenice Meyer and senior communications officer Jordan Milan. Thompson was also able to meet with Mayor Jim Paine, executive director of the Development Association Jim Caesar, Douglas County Board of Supervisors Mark Liebaert and City of Superior planning and economic development & port director Jason Serck.

On campus, Thompson was greeted by UW-Superior governance groups in the Yellowjacket Union and toured the COVID-19 Community Testing Clinic in the Marcovich Wellness Center.

He was also given an honorary UW-Superior hockey jersey and framed print depicting the history of UW-Superior athletics.

Thompson, the former four-term Wisconsin governor who has served as the interim president since July of 2020, announced in January that he will step down from his role as UW System president on March 18.
