The University of Wisconsin-Superior has been awarded a $2.2 million Department of Education Title III Strengthening Institutions grant to support student success. The grant is one of the most competitive offered by the federal agency. Funds will be spread over five years to support new advising initiatives designed to increase student retention and graduation rates.
“We are so excited to receive this award,” said Maria Stalzer Wyant Cuzzo, provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs. “It is a tangible acknowledgement of UW-Superior’s commitment to providing our students with the academic and non-academic assistance they need to thrive and achieve their goals. We are so grateful to the grant development team that spent hundreds of hours researching, visioning and writing this key grant application.”
UW-Superior will use the funds to provide professional development for faculty and staff to implement best practices related to advising and student success, as well as to fully implement Navigate, a software platform designed to enhance advising, mentoring and coordinated student support.
“We set a goal of increasing student retention as part of our current strategic plan and have already begun to see results,” said Cuzzo. “These funds will help us continue that positive trend by ensuring that academic advising strengthens the student experience, removes barriers and helps our students achieve their educational goals.”
