The University of Wisconsin-Superior Music Department will host its Symphonic Band and Percussion Ensemble Concert on Thursday, December 8, at 7:30 p.m. in Thorpe Langley Auditorium.
“The percussion ensemble performance will feature two Caribbean-style steel drum ensemble pieces by Texas-based composer, CJ Menje,” said Dr. Brett Jones, professor of percussion and chair of the Music Department at UW-Superior. “Menje was a guest who worked with members of the percussion ensemble earlier this semester.”
Other pieces will include “Las Tripas,” a traditional Mexican marimba ensemble piece, music from Ghana, in preparation for the Music Department’s upcoming trip to Ghana in January, “Metallic Lullaby” by Eric Peel and a large percussion ensemble composition written by Jones entitled “Water Nymphs,” which is an exploration of percussive sounds and timbre.
Tickets are $5 for adults, $3 for seniors and free for students. Thorpe Langley Auditorium is in Old Main at 1710 Weeks Ave. in Superior.
