UW-Superior to celebrate Equity, Diversity and Inclusion with multiple events
The University of Wisconsin-Superior will celebrate Equity, Diversity and Inclusion with multiple events for the campus and community.
Beginning Monday, February 20, Student Involvement will host Intercultural Coffee Hour from 3 to 4 p.m. in the Yellowjacket Union atrium. The event will discuss the recent Ghana Study Abroad Experience, which took place during UW-Superior’s winter break with 16 students along with several staff, faculty and community members.
On Tuesday, February 21, from noon to 1:30 p.m. in the Yellowjacket Union, Room 200C, Keith Turner, activities director for Hibbing High School, and Carl Crawford, human rights officer for Duluth, will visit UW-Superior to talk about leadership through multicultural perspectives as part of the Cultural Speaker Series.
The UW-Superior Indigenous Cultures Resource Center will host the 11th annual Wisconsin Indigenous & Multicultural Read-In featuring author Anton Treuer on Wednesday, February 22, at 7 p.m. in Erlenbach Lecture Hall, located in Swenson Hall. Free and open to the community, Treuer, professor of Ojibwe at Bemidji State University and author of “Everything You Wanted to Know about Indians but Were Afraid to Ask,” will share traditional Ojibwe winter legends.
The week of events will conclude on Saturday, February 25, with the Soul Food Dinner and program featuring Titambe West African Dance Ensemble. Free and open to the community, the event will begin with a dinner consisting of traditional African American and African dishes from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. in the Yellowjacket Union atrium. The event will move to Thorpe Langley Auditorium in Old Main for a performance by Titambe West African Dance Ensemble beginning at 7 p.m.
