UW-Superior designated a Military Friendly® School for 14 consecutive years

The University of Wisconsin-Superior has been designated a Military Friendly® Silver School by G.I. Jobs®, recognizing the university’s efforts to assist military personnel, veterans and their family members in completing a college education.

“We are thrilled to receive the Military Friendly® ranking for the 14th consecutive year,” said Brendan Pillsbury, Veteran and Nontraditional Student Center coordinator. “This recognition is a testament to the University of Wisconsin-Superior’s commitment to supporting and empowering our veteran community.”

Military Friendly® found that, “UW-Superior is dedicated to assisting military members in their college success and provides services that meet their needs in transitioning to higher education. A dedicated staff is here to assist students with securing their GI Bill benefits and navigating the admissions process. Based on academic policies, veteran students may receive transfer credit for education and some certain specialized training programs completed while in military. With a veteran center located on campus, veterans will find a welcoming atmosphere, a comfortable place to study, and resources that can help answer questions about campus and community support. UW-Superior offers a Veteran’s Transition class to ensure every veteran has the tools and support to succeed at UW-Superior.”

“It reflects our ongoing efforts to provide the resources and services that veterans need to succeed in their academic and professional pursuits,” said Pillsbury. “For the Veteran and Nontraditional Student Center, the Military Friendly® ranking is an affirmation of our mission to serve and support veterans. It demonstrates our dedication to creating a welcoming and inclusive community that values the unique experiences and perspectives of veterans.”

UW-Superior received high marks for its academic policies and compliance, admissions and orientation, culture and commitment and financial aid and assistance. UW-Superior features a Veteran and Nontraditional Student Center that provides a wide range of support programming for veterans of all ages.

“We are proud to be recognized as a leader in providing high-quality support and resources for our veteran students,” said Pillsbury. “This ranking is not just a reflection of one person’s work but the whole university uniting to create a warm, welcoming place for veterans to call home while they are here.”
