Tamarack Health has announced Dr. Kevin Donovan as the inaugural recipient of the North Star Employee Excellence Award at Tamarack Health Hayward Medical Center. The award honors his dedication to patient care and service.

The North Star Award recognizes employees who excel in providing exemplary care, showcasing compassion, empathy, professionalism, a special connection with patients, and strong communication skills. It is open to all non-nursing staff at Tamarack Health, acknowledging that every team member contributes significantly to the patient experience.

A panel of judges evaluated nominations blindly to ensure fairness, basing decisions solely on nomination strength and core criteria. Nominee identities were disclosed only after the judging process concluded.

Dr. Donovan was nominated by Daniell Franson, a parent grateful for his exceptional care during an emergency treatment for her two-year-old son. She appreciated Dr. Donovan's attentiveness and involvement in medical decisions.

"Dr. Donovan proved to us that he truly cared—not just about my son’s health, but also about our comfort and peace of mind," Franson stated. "He went out of his way to ensure we had options and felt secure in the decision-making process."

At a ceremony at Tamarack Health Hayward Medical Center, Dr. Donovan joined Anita Haderly, who received the same award at Tamarack Health Ashland Medical Center earlier this year. Both recipients represent high standards within the Tamarack Health system.

All nominees receive a badge pin in recognition of their service. At Hayward Medical Center, other nominees included Pam Walter from Dietary, Hailey Moreth from the Medical/Surgical Unit, Josie Hanson from Emergency Department alongside Dr. Donovan himself, Charity Hoag from Lab, Windell Jefferson from Medical/Surgical Unit, and Mitchell Nelson from Medical/Surgical Unit.

The North Star Award is presented biannually at each Tamarack Health medical center to an employee demonstrating exceptional dedication to patient care. Nominations can be submitted by patients, families or colleagues who observe outstanding service.
