There were 1,540 students enrolled in Bayfield County schools in the 2024-25 school year, 4% less than the previous school year, according to the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction.

Data also showed that white students comprised 64% of the student body in Bayfield County schools—the largest share—followed by American Indian students at 23.6%, Hispanic students at 5.6%, and multiracial students at 5.5%.

Washburn Elementary School had the highest enrollment among Bayfield County’s 12 schools in the 2024-25 school year, welcoming 285 students.

Wisconsin ranked 29th in the U.S. for student-to-teacher ratio at 14:1, according to a study by AAA State of Play.
